Product Description

MARKING THE 70th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain, Acorn Media is proud to present Battle of Britain, a powerful and sweeping documentary series that takes on the heroic battle which brought about the turning point in a devastating war. Battle of Britain consists of three stirring films which capture a defining moment in history: The Few; Darkest Hour; and The Blitz, representing a true story of human endeavour: the contest between British and German air forces as they fight for superiority in the air over England in 1940. It was to have been the beginning of an invasion that would see Hitler s reign of terror extend throughout Europe. Instead it was the beginning of the end. Using enlightening interviews with surviving British and German pilots and reconstruction sequences, illustrated with unseen footage from the classic feature film Battle of Britain, this DVD release offers an unbiased account of a country preparing to defend itself against a rising German empire. The series also explores the myths that surrounded the campaign giving an objective account of a defining moment in history. Special Features include a documentary on the Sea Hurricane, a picture gallery and a background to the Battle of Britain.

This should have been coupled with FIGHTING THE BLUE because it is its sister documentary in every respect. Using exactly the same format as FIGHTING THE BLUE. But showing the battle from a different day to day aspect, with different interviews from the pilots who took part. Although some interviews remain the same as those in FIGHTING THE BLUE, but again put together in such a way it just makes for compelling and fascinating viewing.
