Product Description

Product Description

Michael Gough, Garrick Hagon and Bob Sessions star in this thrilling radio drama featuring the Batman. 'This is the Batman. Treat what you are about to hear in the strictest confidence - my associates must be protected at all costs. By night in Gotham City you knew me as the Batman. What you never knew was...' The Batman is dead. Police Commissioner Gordon has received a recording by the Batman which reveals his real identity. But who is the occupant of Wayne Manor? It soon becomes a desperate journey into the background of Gotham City's famous vigilante to find out who killed the Dark Knight. This fantastic full-cast adventure stars Michael Gough as Alfred, Garrick Hagon as Bruce Wayne, Kerry Shale as Dick Grayson, Lorelei King as Selina Kyle and Bob Sessions as The Batman, and it comes from the renowned producer Dirk Maggs, of "Superman" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" radio fame. This stunning audio production was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and this all-action adventure can now be heard remastered - complete with dazzling sound effects.

A very cool slice of Batman radio with an interest-grabbing story! This play was made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dark Knight and therefore presents a few flash-backs and character backgrounds interwoven with the story. There is one small plot point that seems unlikely but it's forgivable due to how beautiful the whole play was created. The atmosphere is suitably dark and the character of Commissioner Gordon was particularly well played.

At 45mins, it's very short compared to the 3 hour-plus Kightfall (a highly recommended sequel to this) but its just as inventive and clever, giving nods to famous Batman writers such as Denny O'Neil and Frank Miller. Most Bat-fans will really enjoy this more psychological adventure (unlike Dirk Maggs other superhero plays, its low on action but heavy on character) and wouldn't be disappointed that they added this to their collection!

Weak and stale. 24 Jan 2011
By TG
Format:Audio CD
44 mins long with about 10mins explaining the origins for a number of characters.
The acting is not really up to Knightfall standard with, unfortunately, Batman being the worst.
Weak story with little action and plot holes (neither Alfred nor Dick Grayson spotted an accent change?). I know it's taken from comic books but it's Batman... it's supposed to be serious.
It didn't really help that Media Player played the chapters out of order but still pretty poor.

This is free on Itunes 5 May 2011

I can't justify buying this as it's free on Itunes under one of the classic Batman radio podcasts. Overall this is a rather tame story that goes off the deep end. Entertaining but not that exciting.

A very laid back story 8 April 2011
By Brian Reaves - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I was really looking forward to this one. The premise seemed great, but there is a decided lack of action throughout this story that kills what momentum it could have had. The biggest problem I have is that it's a Batman story but you don't actually get Batman in it like you would expect until the story is almost over. Add to that the decidedly out-of-character actions of Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Alfred (just watching as Bruce sells all the Bat-gear off and not saying anything? Doesn't sound like Alfred to me). When the villain of the story is revealed at last it's just plain weird because his motivations are crazy--even for a comic book story. I don't know if this was taken from an actual comic book storyline or not, but it's missing something (a LOT of something) that would make it really great. Worth listening to once, I guess, but not something to own.
