This book really gets back to the basics of cookery. It is a 'no frills' guide that tells you all the things you wish you could remember from your mother's cooking. The simple recipes give good results and give you the confidence to go on to develop and adapt them. Highly recommended.

I have looked for this type of book for ages and now I have found it !! I cook often and would consider myself quite knowledgeable but occasionally you just need to look something up. This is most definately the book.

I bought this book for my daughter who isn't a very confident or willing cook. I have a similar basic cookbook and it has been a brilliant point of reference over the last 25years. I am hoping this book will be the same for her. It shows the very basic things like boiling an egg and explains all the cooking terminology like 'baste' etc.
