3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable romance 26 Mar 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
If you can get past the thought of wolves roaming Victorian England it's not too bad a romance. The characters can be a bit annoying but the plots not bad and the sex is discreet rather than being soft core porn which a lot of historical romances tend towards nowadays.
The plot is basic a father fearing his own mortality and his daughter, Alexandria Carstairs, being left in the charge of grasping relatives arranges a mariage for his daughter.
The partner chosen from a neighbouring estate Thorne Blakemore, Fifth Earl of Grayson, also happens to be a rake with a poor reputation neither is keen on the marriage as the father starts finding other suitors they agree to marry, the bargain to make an agreeable match she provides an heir and he provides the title and security.
There's a nice secondary romance of the hero's sister and his best friend which comes in at the end as well as somebody trying to kill the lead characters

3.0 out of 5 stars A Beach Read.... 6 Jun 2000
By Xeneri - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
while not my favorate book by Ms Ray, it was a good quick read. This is what I like to call "a beach book" - while predictable at times its got all the elements for a romance novel - strong characters, steamy loves scenes, and quick writing style. Personally, I'd reccomend Ms ray's INCOGNITO, but still, it's worth taking to the beach.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice try Ms. Ray but no cigar... 15 Jun 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I bought this book because it was written by Ms. Ray. All her books in the past have been great, however, this book fell way short. I do respect Ms. Ray with her attempt to write about other cultures set in different time periods. That is very tough and she made a good attemp. However this book was horrible and too predictable. Also, the main characters were all just a bit over the top. Stick with what you know Ms. Ray thats what your good at....

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT! 18 Nov 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I don't usually read the historial romance novels until some friends and a sister-in-law got me started. This was one of the first I read and I LOVED IT!!! (They've gotten me hooked!) It's a very sweet story and it's funny how stubborn some people can be. It's definately a book I'd like to pick up and read later on as well. I can't wait to read some of her other books! (Sorry this isn't a book report =) start reading and I bet you'll like it!!!)
