I love Ina Garten and the Barefoot Contessa series. However, as I have collected all her previous books, I was a bit dissapointed with this one. Her recipes are great, easy to do and always delicious. But this book is mostly made up of recipes from her previous books. So if you don't have her other books then it is a great buy. If you have her other books then keep in mind many of the recipes you already have. I give 3 stars for the duplications of recipes. Otherwise it would be 5.

If you haven't discovered Ina yet you are really missing out! Even if you don't watch her on UKTV Food (and seriously, do!) you will still love this book. Don't be put off by the 'Back To Basics' concept. It's less 'How To Boil An Egg', more bringing the best out of all your ingredients, be it by technique (slow roasting tomatoes to concentrate flavour) or combination (plums with cassis to bring out the 'pluminess').

The book is beautiful and Ina is such an amiable companion. You'd be hard pushed not to find something to make your mouth water just thinking about the recipes. Brownie Pudding, anyone?
Other temptations include: French Bistro Steaks with Provencal butter, Italian Wedding Soup, Baked Shrimp Scampi, Blueberry Streusel Muffins and Fresh Raspberry Gratins.

The only difficulty is choosing where to start. Personally, I think it'll be the Pomegranate Cosmopolitan while I consider my next move...

I have watched The Barefoot Contessa on TV and her recipes and style of instruction are first class so I simply had to buy the book. Everything I have made has turned out exactly as the photographs and all the dishes have been absolutely delicious. She uses top notch ingredients and loads of butter and salt but I didn't deviate from the recipes and they were divine. I am a keen cook (and the same size as Ina!) and I have over the years collected over 40 cookery books, Rick, Nigella, Delia etc but I have to say that I will not bother with any of them in future and will just stick with Ina Garten. Converting from American cup sizes to metric requires a bit of maths but I downloaded a conversion chart on the internet. In summary a fantastic a book, the first of many, and I cannot praise it too highly.

This is an excellent example of the incredibly high standard of Barefoot Contessa's books on cooking with many excellent recipes and clear guidelines to cook and prepare these, etc. Our family rates her books as the best in an world now saturated by such books many of which are written by other famous and skilled cooks.

I love watching Ida's show on UKTVFood, so thought that I would purchase this book.
I have to say that I'm really glad that I did. All of the recipes are easy to follow, and really don't take that long. And once cooked, the food tastes great!
To the folk who are saying that it is annoying having to convert everything - You can buy measuring cups in Tesco stores, and they are so much easier to use then weighing out everything. You can also get a lot of the American ingredients there (or a UK substitute).
My only one gripe, is that being a vegetarian - I would of liked to have seen some more of the veggie recipes that she includes in her show.
Other than that, I'm pleased with the purchase.
