Reviews

Barbara Stanwyck first established her name as a theatrical actress before making her film debut in 1927 in Broadway Nights. Whilst she had been earmarked for the leading role in this film, her inability to cry to order at the screen test saw her demoted to a bit part. It was to be the only time she missed out on a lead role. She would go on to make more than 100 films during her career, earning her four Academy nominations (although she never won). By way of compensation, she did collect three Emmy Awards for her continuing theatrical career.

These films are marvellous but the prints used for this collection are dreadful, as has already been noted. Yes, the set is very cheap but I'm really disappointed with my purchase and will probably not watch them in this version. I'll wait for some decent discs to come on the market...

One of the silver screens finest actresses is let down here by dodgy transfers to disc...The distributors even make the very odd statement on the cover that 'When transfering to digital format some quality may have been lost'...No kidding! They look as though they have gone straight from poor quality VHS to Disc...including glitches!
Not helped by'faint and broad'green and red lines that appear over the picture!...I had to adjust the color on my TV to get rid of them.
Also the packaging is very basic too...But if you're willing to put up with these problems then go ahead and buy, they are just about watchable and worthwhile movies.
Needless to say these are 'Vanilla' discs with no extras and little written info on each film.
So...Come on Elstree Hill Entertainment guy's...Barbara Stanwyck deserves better than this...and so do we!
