5.0 out of 5 stars A great modelers resource 26 Aug 2000
By C A Danielson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Chapelles Baltimore Clipper is a much needed work concerning a type of sailing vessel that is unfortunatly overlooked by most Naval Historians. Chapelle begins with several earlier types of vessels thal may have been the forerunner(s) of the Clippers and continues through the American Revaloution, the War of 1812, the slave trade, to the types decline in the mid 19th century. Included are hull plans, deck plans, and sail plans, all take offs of actual ships of this type. Also covered are weapons and weapons placement. This is a must have book for anyone wanting to build an authentic model of a vessel of this type or for anyone interested in American ships in the age of sail.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quality Reprinting of an Historically Important Book 11 Sep 2008
By Theseus - Published on Amazon.com
Tradition Press of Hatboro, PA did an excellent job reprinting Chapelle's classic book.

While not a fine binding, this is a large, handsome volume: blue linen over hardback boards with white lettering on spine. Dustjacket is matte and simple (and much closer to Navy than the bright blue depicted in the photo.) Ample margins on buff paper with over 75 b&w illustrations: engravings, line drawings, reproductions of paintings, plans.

Table of Contents
1965 Foreward by Chapelle
I. The Baltimore Clipper
II. The Baltimore Clipper During the Revolution
III. Development from 1782 to 1812
IV. The War of 1812
V. The Slave Trade
VI. The End of the Baltimore Clipper
VII. Masting Rules and Sail Plans
VIII. Appendix: Tables of Proportions of Masts, Etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original 17 April 2013
By mike Hollis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is much smaller in size than the original hardcover (which was 9"X12"ish). It makes the drawings and plans harder to read and the paper is of lesser quality. Realize that this is not a story but rather a reference manual for marine engineers and architects.
