Wonderful 18 July 2008
By John
Format:Hardcover
Alexander Frater has switched seamlessly into a new genre. I have followed his travel books with real pleasure. He uses his same colourful attention to detail to bring this wonderful book alive. This is a book that will be enjoyed by everyone, not just those interested in flight. Highly recommended.

Disjointed waffle 16 Dec 2008
By Andy
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book joins the very small list of books that I threw away without finishing it. What could have been a fascinating read was totally wrecked by the author's rambling, disjointed writing style. Half of the book seems to be about the author's travels whilst researching the book including such trivia as who he met, what they looked like, what they were wearing, etc. Without all this waffle the book would be half the size but proably a much better read.

Overall a huge dissappointment.

A really interesting read; I just wish it had been written by someone else with a less irritating writing style.

The author feels the need to digress into trivial and irrelevant details about every place or person he visited during his research for this book, on some occassions the digressions became so multi-layered that I had to consciously back track through them to understand the people or places that were being referred to and this makes what could have been an otherwise excellent book only a good one.
