This ia a very nice book with inticing pictures. There is some introduction to ballet steps but on the whole it aims to give the flavour of Ballet. Many children I know began dancing lessons following reading it and trying some of the simple exercises within. It helps prepare you for what a young dancer might do in their class and also offers a little background to Ballet, Contemporary Dance and the terms and phrases used to teach and practice Dance. Recommended Reading age 8-10yrs

This is a beautifully-presented quality product with really good pictures (including some of Darcey herself). It's not a 'how-to' guide - more of an introduction to the basic positions and some moves. There are also bits about stage make-up, costume etc. I think it's a book to inspire rather than teach. Although there are boys pictured throughout I would say it is quite 'girly' in tone but not too pink and frothy. I have given one to my daughter and one as a gift and I would be happy to buy again.

The ballet book 29 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback
This is an ideal book for beginners under 10 years old. Darcey Bussel is the attraction as every little girl knows her. Good for pictures, shows other forms of dance too. Would recommend it as long as you are not looking for too much technical stuff.
