Book Description

Louise Hart has endured a great deal of pain from her callous husband Paul, but one cold December night in 1959 she can take no more. She and her son Davey escape their Coventry high-rise flat and flee to Tanglewood, the dilapidated ivy-clad mansion where her mother Dolly runs an animal sanctuary. Miserable and frightened, Louise longs to turn her back on the past, and create a happy new life for Davey. But Paul is in trouble with men more dangerous than himself. Unable to pay his debts, he blackmails Louise and those who love her, keeping a shadowy presence in their lives. Even the arrival of Charlie Fox, a stranger who becomes a true friend, cannot guarantee that the future will be safe...

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartrending thriller! 18 Aug. 2004
Format:Hardcover
Rosie Goodwin is a fabulous new writer and I can see many more riviting stories to come out of this author! Rosie's writing style enables you to envision the characters so clearly they seem to be truly alive. She hooks you in and you can't get loose from her gripping words! This story has surprising twists also. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you think. I'm a fairly fast reader, but it took 1/2 a box of tissues and nearly an hour for me to get through 3 pages near the end of this book because I couldn't stop sobbing! I loved this book and rather hated to see the story end. Rosie keeps you wanting for more! Well done Rosie! Let's see some more!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real heart-warming read 14 April 2005
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This is the first book by a new author and she is compared to Josephine Cox. I think she is even better.
The characters are warm and believable, and it is a real page-turner.
I am really looking forward to reading Rosie Goodwin's next novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic heart warming read! 30 April 2007
Format:Paperback
This is the first book I have read by Rosie Goodwin and to say it's fantastic is an understatement! I couldn't put it down and it had me reaching for the tissues on more than one occasion. It's the most believable and touching book I have ever read - and I've read many many books!

I can't wait to read more of this brilliant author's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart-warming read 24 Jun. 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This first novel by Midlands-based author Rosie Goodwin is a heart-warming drama about a woman who escapes from her abusive husband to start a new life at Tanglewood, an animal sanctuary run by her indomitable mother. There's plenty here to involve the reader, to make her smile and to make her cry. The heroine's problems seem insurmountable at first, but she tackles everything life throws at her with grit and determination. She finally finds a new love and rebuilds her life, and this makes a perfect ending to an engrossing, emotional story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch this space 21 Jun. 2004
Format:Hardcover
Written in the style of Josephone Cox but far less predictable, this is a first novel for this author but I am sure there will be more. A writer with a bright future.
The story is set around a battered wife and her son who can finally take no more of her husband's violence and involvement with criminals. Desperate to escape, she ends up at the house where she grew up. Her mother runs an animal sanctuary at the house called Tanglewood. Unfortunately, her husband finds out where she is. Desperate to escape the criminals pursuing him, he blackmails anyone he can in order to acquire money to escape, but he can't quite let go of his wife and son, though he doesn't care tuppence for them. Eventually he gets his come uppance and our heroine finds happiness. An enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly unputdownable! 18 April 2012
Format:Paperback
I usually read gory crime novels but my mother had convinced me to try some of her favourite authors. From the moment I picked this book up it was amazing. It was easy to read and I found myself disapearing into an imaginary world of great friendships and strong family ties. This book had me hooked right from the start and I would recommend this to everyone - you must read this!!!
