I thought this was going to be a book but instead received what I think looks like a free leaflet you can get from the local chemist.

The first time you get severe back pain will be disconcerting and probably frightening. I read this book as one who has suffered back pain occasionally and with varying severity for more than 15 years. I have had a lot of good advice and some not so good over that period, and have learned the difference the hard way.

This small book, just 21 pages, is written in a very straightforward, clear style by a team of 5 experts from a range of medical disciplines and oozes authority.

It's an excellent, simple reference book that will reassure the sufferer and give them confidence when discussing their problem and their needs with doctors and other health professionals, work colleagues and bosses, and well-meaning friends and neighbours.

'back' to square one 19 Oct 2009
The GP recommended this book but I was very disappointed. Instead of any helpful exercises or practical advice on how to deal with back pain The Back Book appears to be government propaganda advising you not to trouble your doctor with your symptoms and certainly not to give up work and become a drain on national resources by claiming incapacity benefits. The book advises you to carry on as normal and keep moving as if you didnt have any back pain. Well thanks a lot! I found this book to be an unhelpful resource, if you are looking for any practical ideas on how to cope with or improve your back pain, don't bother reading!
