I bought this new BabySense Secret book as I'm now expecting our second baby (I have both the SleepSense and ToddlerSense books also by Megan) and have to say that I think this book is brilliant already. I'm only 18wks now, but have read it cover to cover already and love the format and how clear it is to dip in and out of.

I was late finding this author, so skipped the BabySense book but imagine that perhaps this is a mix of that and SleepSense, but know I'm going to refer to it no end once this baby arrives!

We were blessed with a beautiful baby boy last time who was early and arrived quite dramatically - who then snack-breastfed and catnapped for his first 6 months of life leading to a very exausted mummy and daddy. The SleepSense book was the one thing that finally got him napping regularly in the daytime (which then in turn leasd to longer stretchs of night sleep) and so this time around, with a toddler to care for too, I now feel armed with the information we need to ensure this bubs is going to be as settled and calm as we can help him/her to be, which will hopefully lead to a more rested us!

I have found this book very useful in setting a routine with my first baby. It gives tips on nap times, self-settling, when and how to entertain your baby without them becoming over-stimulated. It is broken down into age brackets as things can change so quickly with a new baby! It is an easy to follow plan, none of the strict routines you may find with other childcare "experts", it provides a lot of good tips and a good base for finding your routine by watching baby's cues.
So far it has helped me immensely in getting to grips with being a new mum and I would recommend it to any mums-to-be.

This book is very clear and nicely presented accesible language and you an pick bits out and refer to it when you need to. I had a few books about chilcare but none which helped me understand my baby until I was given this one. It really helps you understand what your baby feels and see the world through the eyes of a baby. It also gives examples of activities and things you can do with your baby and is very detailed. eg. It will explain different types of crying and suggest ideas of what you can do. An example would be when babies are overstimulated they explain what 'warning signs' are and give you a detailed Ccount of what you can do, not simply tell you to play with soothing toys(if you don't know what they are). I felt this book helped me understand my baby and helped me deal with issues and situations confidently (especially as my daughter was of a nervous disposition, which rubbed off on me!). A must have for first time mums!!!
