5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant - the baby catalogue 29 Nov 2009
Format:Board book
When we were given this book by our neighbour we were surprised that there was no written story to it, but its a fantastic book and it gets you talking with your child. our little one is coming up for 20 months and hasn't put this down for the last 12 months! So many objects/situations/colours/animals and move of all babies, children and mummy's and daddy's - you just cannot run out of things to talk about and it learnt us that you do not necessarily need a story to follow, children are just so happy with you talking to them.

I bought "The Baby's Catalogue" for my 16-month old daughter, Ruby. She loves to point at her favourite everyday things pictured in the book like the radio; the baby sitting on the potty examining his belly-button; the washing machine and the guinea pig (she even makes guinea pig 'squeaks' now when she sees the picture!). I like the way the book consists mainly of illustrations - it means that I can describe these pictures to Ruby in my own way. I also like how variations of the same object are pictured. Ruby points out which teapot or pram she likes. I pointed at the pram with two babies inside and asked, "Would Ruby like two babies?" and she quickly replied, "No!"! I find the pictures so charming and familiar. "The Baby's Catalogue" is a beautifully quaint book and it appears that there has been a lot of thought behind it's layout. It is a lot of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars funny, beautiful baby book 28 Dec 2005
By A Customer
Beautiful pictures of the everyday objects familiar to young children, drawn with a sense of humour (my toddler laughs hysterically at the baby that has fallen into the toilet!) and a real sense of nostalgia. One of the most charming baby books I have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just great... 13 Nov 2000
By A Customer
A wonderful book. Hours of entertainment and fun for adults and very young babies. Lots of detailed drawings outlining a gently humourous view of English life that transcends national boundaries. Faintly nostalgic, beautifully observed, and beyond peers in publishing for the very young. If any body tells you your newborn cannot see details, this book will prove them wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Useful! 22 Feb 2009
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
This is a great book to read to young babies in order to aquaint them with the whole book experience. There is no plot to follow, just simple words, with lots of pictures. For the adult, you can connect the pictures of the various families into a narrative (if you want). For the baby, there is recognition of the objects they use daily and the joy of sharing a book with someone they love. Thoroughly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Babies. 17 Feb 2006
This book is wonderful for new babies and new parents. There is no story just words of things and lots of pictures. It is ideal for parents who want to bring the world of books to their very young children. It gives you the opportunity to interact with your baby, telling them about what things are and as they get older you can discuss what is happening with them. A real gem of a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book! 9 Feb 2010
Format:Board book
My mum bought this for my daughter when she was about 6 months old and she loved looking at the pictures with us talking about what was happening. It really helped her to speak, she learnt all the words in the book and now at 2 1/2 she still loves it, reading it to her dolls and making up stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant classic baby book 9 Jan 2011
By El Bell
Format:Board book
The Baby's catalogue is a really fantastic book for babies and toddlers, my little girl has spent hours looking at this book, and it always goes with us on holidays, trips in the car etc
With this (pretty much) textless book, the Ahlbergs created a book which encourages the parent to talk about the book with the child, looking at each illustration in detail, un-distracted by text, and the whole book is so domestic in subject that the baby feels completely familiar with all elements.

It's a really great book, and I can highly recommend it to all parents of little uns.

5.0 out of 5 stars prefect condition
Prefect condition and we still enjoy it a few years on. More of a words and pictures book rather than a story book but a great learning tool and my little ones loved it.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice book but....
The illustrations are lovely but for my 14 month old, it's a bit confusing for him, maybe a better book for when he's a bit older.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Baby's Catalogue
Lovely book full of pictures which I talk about with my toddler. We Breastfeed and baby wear so it's nice to show him pics which relate to our family. Old fashioned but delightful.
