Review

Praise for Tom Knox:

'Tom Knox knows the DNA of an astonishing thriller. THE MARKS OF CAIN is a compelling and frightening novel, and it may well be the most controversial thriller since THE DA VINCI CODE. Action, history, religion, and genetics combine for a gripping read that will keep you reading late into the night.' Jeff Abbott, bestselling author of Panic and Fear

'Steeped in both blood and history and keeps up a scorching pace from start to finish' Northern Echo

'Knox writes with a clean efficiency. The characters are nicely wrought … Best of all, Knox really knows his stuff and his discourses on ancient man, human sacrifice, demons of the mid-east and obscure pre-Judaic religions are all woven into the plot seamlessly. I'm reminded of why I always liked these type of books, because not only do the best ones grip and propel you through their pages but they also leave you a little more knowledgeable than when you started' Shotsmag

Product Description

High-concept thriller which weaves together past and present terrors in an intense page-turner

If you dig up hell, you uncover evil…

Edinburgh: a famous Templar historian dies mysteriously at the Rosslyn chapel, setting journalist Adam Blackwood on a quest for the truth to the Templar sites of Europe. Meanwhile, in London, several young people from the international party set commit suicide in very bizarre circumstances.

Peru: Ten thousand miles away, anthropologist Jess Silverton is digging up the world’s most terrifying ancient civilization: the Moche, a people mired in blood ritual and human sacrifice. But it seems that their ancient practices may not be entirely buried and forgotten…

The Amazon: Adam and Jess will both be thrown into mortal danger as it emerges that the suicides, the Templars and the sinister rituals of the Moche are all linked by a chilling secret – the secret that, quite literally, kills.

What a wild ride! 16 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
This is Tom Knox's best thriller so far, I think. I knew nothing about the terrifying Moche culture of Peru - to be perfectly truthful, I'd never heard of them until I read this book. It's one of the things that I enjoy about Tom Knox's novels - despite the fantastically page-turning stories and the truly lurid murders at the heart of each one, I learn things about the world - its history, archaeology, rituals, cultures and ancient civilisations - that I nev knew before. He's really brilliant at digging up the most incredibly obscure but fascinating details and linking them together within a really entertaining story. This one travels from Scotland to Peru via lots of ancient Templar-associated sites. My favourite part is when the characters travel through South America, which I have never visited, but it is clear that the author has - his descriptions of poor rural villages and the weird rituals going on in the markets is riveting. You can tell he's travelled to these places and recorded genuine experiences, because the details ring true and are extremely vivid. This is never going to win literary awards, but it's the perfect armchair or holiday read - it'll sweep you away all over the world and leave you breathless and a little horrified. Just what I like.

Genuinely sinister 4 Mar 2012
By Yaz
Format:Paperback
It's fashionable these days for thriller writers to seek out some genuine mystery and turn it into fiction. The genius of this book is that Tom Knox has found a quite incredible mystery, the eerie and creepy Moche civilisation in South America. He also provides a plausible and disturbing explanation as to why they behaved so wickedly.

I thought the Templar connection was also enjoyably unpredictable, and in the end it all fits together quite fantastically. Great entertainment from beginning to end.

disappointing 17 April 2012

Having read the previous books by this Author I was Quite looking forward to reading this one. However, I have stopped reading it half way through as the content and description is too horrific and there is no warmth to any of the characters.

The Babylon Rite
Interesting start with solid characters.Sadly author seemed to struggle to pull the story together towards the end and lost my interest a little. Nevertheless not too bad.
