Product Description

Product Description

If your child isn't sleeping through the night, the chances are neither are you. But help is at hand from one of Britain's leading child psychiatrists. Now fully updated, THE NEW BABY AND TODDLER SLEEP PROGRAMME takes the agony out of bedtime and explains how a calm and peaceful sleep routine is possible with any child from a very early age. Regular sleep patterns are an essential part of normal childhood development and the earlier in their lives that sleep can be 'sorted' the easier children will find the rest of their lives. THE NEW BABY AND TODDLER SLEEP PROGRAMME demysifies sleeping habits. It explains to hassled parents how sleep rythms alter over time, what sort of behaviour is natural at various ages, when to be strict and when to make allowances, when to turn deaf ears to tears - and how to recognise the important signs of illness, distress, fear or anxiety.

Life Saver!!!!! 11 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
This book is absolutley brilliant, my 11 month old son would'nt go to sleep unless he was wrapped in a sheet and rocked to sleep and even then he was a nightmare, then when I had got him to sleep he would wake at least twice through the night and take up to 3 hours to get back to sleep.
I couldn't take it anymore, I was getting depressed with lack of sleep and it was affecting my relationship. I had asked friends and family for advice but couldn't manage with there suggestions so one day out of the blue I went to my local Mothercare and bought this book and a sleep bag. the best two items ever!
I read the book in one afternoon and decided to to take the advice of the rapid sleep programme, it was hard to just leave my son to cry but with the help of my partner I got through it and each night my son cried less at been left to go to sleep alone and now he barely twists.
Before I had this book I used to dread bedtime - the stress - but now I just do my little pre-sleep routine then put him to bed say goodnight and thats that. My son sleeps alot better now, he doesn't wake through the night and is in such a better mood during the day.
This book is a god send to any parent that has trouble with there childs sleep.

This book is full of good practical advice on how to get your child to sleep through the night. It explains how to combat getting your child to sleep in his own bed, how to deal with night time crying and other nocturnal problems. It also assists with what behaviour is natural at what age. This book basically explains how children need a permanent bedtime routine and most importantly - they need to learn how to go to sleep by themselves.

I am a typical new parent...I am in need of more sleep! In the depths of despair I started to research on the internet looking for books about sleep training, and a newer version of this book was suggested as a good read. Unfortunately the latest version of the book wasn't available, and as I was desperate and couldn't wait, I decided to buy the older version thinking that things can't have changed that much! Anyway, I started to read the book page by page but it wasn't providing the practical help and advice that I need so I then dipped in and out of the book through to the end. In all honesty I learnt nothing from this book that a) helped or b) I didn't already know. In my opinion, there are better books available. All in all a bit of a waste of money really.
