Book Description

Alexander Eden is one unhappy teenager. A geeky, social pariah, he's the victim of constant bullying at school. His home life isn't much better with a stepfather who resents him and a half brother who is better than him at everything.

But that all changes the day the mysterious and beautiful Gabriella De Luca walks into his life. Everyone wants to know her, to be with her. But she is interested in Alex.
Because Alex is different.

Soon afterwards he is thrown into a world he never thought possible. A world where he and others like him are the last line of defence. A world where an ancient unspeakable evil lurks.
Evil which seeks to consume him.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 13 Mar. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition
Having returned my previous kindle purchase - it was sooooooo slow and hadn't got going after 50 pages - I wasn't overly optimistic as I began reading The Awakening.

Well, have I ever been more wrong?!

The story starts slowly, but you can feel it building, new characters arriving, existing characters developing, from very early in the book. As the story builds, so does the excitement. And it carries on this way until the very last page .... and I do mean the last page!!

Yes, you know the story type. There's a hero with skills that develop ...... a love interest ..... also with skills, there's a very bad baddie ..... and there's a good punch-up as the end approaches. Predictable? Possibly. But there are twists and turns along the way and the twist at the end leaves you logging back in to Amazon to get the next book in the series ...

    ........ WHICH ISN'T YET AVALABLE!!!!!!!!!!

For that reason alone a should give this book zero stars! But this story deserves 5 because I couldn't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read, really recommend this book! 4 April 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was really great! I couldn't put it down, or turn the Kindle off when I was reading it! It's got some great characters, and whilst a bit obvious in some places, I felt that the author really captured England well, and reminded me of my school days too! It also made me cry in a couple of places, as the investment in the characters was really built up and made me care about them when things happened.

Looking forward to the next book already! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Loved It! 25 Jun. 2012
    Format:Paperback
The Awakening starts of with a teenage boy, living in London, England called Alex. He is unhappy with much of his life, he had no friends, was bullied and he could do nothing right when it came to his stepfather as hs half brother was better than everything compared to him.
His life changes when he meets a new student, Gabriella who takes an interest in him and then strange things start happening.

What can I say WOW The Awakening is an amazing book, I loved it completely. There was action, fantasy and love and humour all mixed in and I was totally hooked.

I couldn't stop laughing when Alex got drunk it was hilarious

The story was very detailed and thorough, the ideas throughout the book were ingenius and it was very well written. My imagination could really flow. As I only read just before bed I was anxious to get to bed and read more of what was happening in Chapter Hill and the Warren. What would happen with Alex and Gabriella when the The Sorrow finally came.

I totally enjoyed reading The Awakening and can't wait until The Veil, book #2 in the Hasea Chronicles is available.

The Awakening could very easily be made into a film and is something I definitely would watch.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Scintillating 5 Feb. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a scintillating read. The characters of Alex and Gabriella are highly visual and fairly leap off the page. Alex is a guy the girls will warm to with hidden depths and strengths. Gabriella is an intense, complex character and one that will excite and intrigue the boys.
The story captivates the reader from the beginning. The plot unfolds with a quick pace, promising a roller coaster of a ride with twists and turns at every corner. It is one that will take you into the night. I love the writing style which is succinct and clean, not wasting one word, which is the mark of a clever and skilled writer. As for the comparison with Twilight, this book is individual with an original approach. It has an electrifying story with exciting depths and textures that grab the imagination, that thrill with the emotions and interactions of the characters. I would highly recommend this. Unputdownable.

4.0 out of 5 stars From zero to hero and more 19 Mar. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's a really great read, which you feel and root for the two main characters and the others that are their friends.
I'm not going to give away too much of the story, but it is a really good story of how a no-body becomes a somebody. A hero to some, a saviour to others. It's a great story of good vs. evil.

There is plenty of action, well detailed and written.
It's dark in nature. You feel for Alex, the way he is at school. The way he gets treated because he is zero, nothing in the eyes of everyone at school. That changes overnight, and the way the book reads and explains the changes in people's attitudes against Alex is really well done.

I would of given 5 stars, but I felt the story went over to many times the way Alex felt and how he was treated at school after his amazing transformation. He lingered on it too much. The way he was hard done by.
I was nearly screaming at the character to 'wake the hell up!' after reading for the hundredth time that such and such treated him like a snail.
The bully aspect is really good, and anyone who has been in that position will relate to it.

All in all it's an excellent story. Well worth every penny. Hard hitting, sad, heroic and keeps you reading.

If this is a sign of things to come, then the sequel should be great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pacy, exciting, visual 15 Feb. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition
When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure if I could relate to the down-trodden Alex, and a few times I found myself wanting to tell him to pull himself together. But before I knew it, I was racing through the book, cheering Alex on (in my head) and when I thought back to who Alex had been I was glad I got to share that journey with him. The battle scenes/action scenes are so well written I was practically skipping words in my excitement. The book is hugely visual, I never once felt that I couldn't imagine what a character or a room looked like. It springs to life from the page and becomes almost like a movie where you forget you're reading and plunge straight into the world of The Awakening. I've always loved this genre, but I really like how this book moves away from the (let's admit it slightly cliched) Vampire world and into a much cooler wider supernatural plane with faeries and skinshifters and stuff.

All in all I laughed, I cried, I raced through the scenes in suspense. What more can you ask for? Highly recommended and looking forward to the next ones in the series!
