Product Description

Product Description

Attacks on the Biblical doctrine of the atonement have taken many different forms. At times the errors have been cleverly robed with Biblical phraseology and have deceived the unsuspecting. The Biblical terms sacrifice, propitiation, reconciliation, and redemption have often been given a meaning that finds no parallel in Scripture. The motivation for this, as some claim, is to protect the love of God.
Since it is God Himself who has revealed the way by which He may be propitiated and reconciled, we must allow the Scriptures to define its own terms. In a warm, devotional manner and with a lucid style, Professor Murray brings to light the Biblical significance of the terms used to express the atonement. He clearly reveals that the terms of Scripture do not deny the love of God but bring it out in bold relief.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fifty-five years on: still a winner 24 April 2014

I first read this book over fifty years ago and it revolutionised my understanding of the atonement. It gave structure to my understanding of the biblical data on the meaning of Christ's death. This is solid fayre. I remember hearing Professor Murray on a number of occasions and being moved to worship and adore as he explained the scriptures. Don't read another book until you have read this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great study 21 April 2014

I have read many of Murray's books and gained from them. This study on the complex theology of the Atonement is very good. I think many people do not understand this very basic but essential doctrine and as a result we have Universal Salvation being taught in many churches.

I always look to the cross for inspiration and liberty. That is where it ends and begins. I know that I am saved, but must reconcile the fact that the body still has to pay, until He returns, I must finish the race.
