The Assassin's Wife is a fast-paced and highly readable novel. If you want to be carried away and escape for a day, check it out.

...a bit of extra character building to give it more depth. It packs a punch from the opening scenes and maintains a great pace. I liked the way that Meg is thrust into the action from the start. But the strength of this book is also its main weakness in that it is so fast, you don't have time to get to know the characters very well. For example, suddenly we find Meg is running like an Olympian, leaping over three-foot fences, but until that point we have absolutely no clue she's so athletic, so we feel the hand of the author rather than him simply having planted the seed that she has this ability to run. At times, Roger Weston's style can be a little repetitive (which a good edit would have easily sorted). But all in all, an entertaining escapist read.

I fail to see how the other reviewers scored this so highly. From the opening lines I felt the book was written by a computer programme that had been fed with a few key words by a 14 year old, who had also clicked on 'Bad C Movie'.

I made it to about a couple of chapters until my brain could take no more of this formulaic drivel.

I often put myself into situations in a book and think 'what would a reasonable, normal person (as we are expected to accept) do in a situation like this?'

From the outset I immediately thought 'What????' 'Why on earth did she do that???'.

And that is one of my personal hates in a book. Sorry Mr Weston.....
