Product Description

The Assassins' Village reached#1 in Women Sleuths and #2 in Suspense.
"The Assassins' Village" by author, Faith Mortimer introduces, Diana Rivers, writer, sometime actor and amateur sleuth. NB. Although the Diana Rivers mystery suspense murder novels are a 'series', they can be read in any order.

When an expatriate theatrical group gather to discuss their next play there will be murder. A blackmailer stalks their picturesque Cypriot village. The group is riven with jealousies, rivalry, sexual tension and illicit affairs.

Unbeknown to each other they all attempt to find solutions to their problems. Some believe it lies in murder. Can they find the blackmailer? And can they find that all important 'little black book' - the chronicle of their misdeeds.

A body is discovered and Diana turns detective to draw up a suspects list. After the police get involved one of the suspects is found hanged - is this another murder or suicide? Was he indeed hanged? A visit to a villager's home uncovers an ancient assassin's device. Could this be the murder weapon? Is it possible that an assassin lives at the heart of this formerly peaceful and idyllic mountain village?

Love, hate, murder and high drama all feature in this classic historical detective story. With a long list of suspects, some dramatic twists and the odd red herring, the reader is left guessing until the final curtain. (Approx 93,000 words).

This is the first in the Diana Rivers series; Children of the Plantation and The Surgeon's Blade are also available on Amazon. Book four, Camera Action...Murder! Is now available.

Faith also writes adventurous romantic suspense. Please see The Seeds of Time (book 1 in the Crossing series) and Harvest (book 2 in the Crossing series).

Thank you & I sincerely hope you enjoy your read.

5.0 out of 5 stars New crime author alert Faith Mortimer 1 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Faith Mortimer's kindle ebook the Assassin's Village has been an enjoyable read for me. I've been experimenting in the Kindle Store, and I was attracted by the use of the commedia del'arte cover. Recently I've read a lot of Kindle crime fiction, and while I've not read crime since Agatha Christie, unless Dan Brown counts, I was looking forward to a well structured plot. Faith did not let me down. I've written an article myself about the joy of reading on the Kindle titled "Why The Kindle Is Better Than Books" and mentioned two authors so far. I just updated it to include Faith's book. The reason the book is good is that it really suits the Kindle format. Short chapters, lovely prologue quotes from Macbeth, and the used of consecutive narrative is handy for Kindle reading behaviour. I've put a link to her product below and I hope you will all buy a copy. It is a good length too, some of these Kindle books tend to be too short. Value for money and a great read for a girl or guy on the go. Enjoy the mystery and beauty of Cypress, and the seedy inhabitants of The Assassin's Village.

I really enjoyed this book, set in a small village in Cyprus. The plot keeps you guessing right up to the end with numerous twists and turns. As I do live in a small Cypriot village made it all the more enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Murder and justice in beautiful Cyprus 3 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
this mystery is full of twists and motives from all kinds of suspects who coulda/woulda/shoulda killed the 2 horribly, hateful victims. (i wanted to kill both of them too! they are truly vile!) did one person kill them both? they were killed very differently.

The author has been compared to Agatha Christie. But I disagree. Christie's characters are certainly 'true', but Mortimer colors her characters more deeply, provides more background and backstory. She paints multi-dimensional characters. Christie's weren't always drawn so fully as the reader mostly drew conclusions from the detective's actions. what was chilling about these characters as several of the suspects were 'friends' of the sleuths.

Mortimer's narrative is chock full of psychological nuances and sometimes touches of the paranormal - but not quite.

Diana and Steve are charming sleuths and i enjoy their loving, and thankfully, not sappy relationship. they could be compared to Christie's Tommy & Tuppance. i've only read 1, maybe 2 of those books, and very long ago, so i could be wrong about that.

annoyingly, when you're done with the story, she pretty much told you everything you needed to know - if only you'd read the signs more carefully.
