2.0 out of 5 stars Too Amercian in content 22 Jun 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found this book was too American in content to use easily, although it does contain some good ideas. Many of the activities involve using American food brands and other items which are not internationally available and, as there are no colour pictures, I didn't know what to substitute. It also suggests a lot of things to make for holiday seasons (eg Thanksgiving) which are not relevent for a UK market. Much better suited to a North American readership.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun ideas for children 26 Jun 2013
By Brooks
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Although you can get lots of ideas off the internet its helpful to have a host at your fingertips in a book. Although American with American words like Jello and contact (sticky back plastic) etc it is easy to extrapolate what they mean in each set of things you need, and the book really has some fun ideas. My child is 22 months now and I can see this being useful for the next few years as there are a range of activities for various age groups and abilities.

Its has sections on 1) Arts & Crafts and what you need 2) drawing 3) painting 4) printmaking 5) modelling and papier-mache 6) glue & paper 7) nature
8) edible 9) educational 10) toys and gifts 11) holidays. In the appendices it has recipes for play dough, glue etc. I think its a useful little book and I'm excited to keep trying out the ideas with my little one. I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crafting and play fun for toddlers 7 April 2004
By Harold McFarland - Published on
Full of simple arts and crafts for toddlers and preschool children "The Arts and Crafts Busy Book" is a great resource. In total there are 365 basic crafts grouped into 12 chapters. Some of the areas covered include coloring, painting, printmaking, modeling, sculpting, nature arts and crafts, educational arts and crafts, and holiday arts and crafts. Each craft is laid out in cookbook style listing all the materials required first and then the instructions for completing the craft. Easy, fun activities for preschool children, "The Arts and Crafts Busy Book" is highly recommended for anyone who deals with young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book 5 Feb 2009
By R. Pettit - Published on
I have been a first grade teacher for 12 years, so I really know arts and crafts books inside and out. This is an outstanding book. What sets this book apart from all of the other craft books out there is Trish's aversion to doing crafts with kids. She wrote that she just wasn't that into it. Therefore, she has written a book that has projects that require VERY little adult help, are easy, have little clean up, and best of all ~ they are really FUN for kids! I just open the book, read what is on the page, and set my 5 and 6 year old to work. For example, one day I opened the book and my kids found themselves at the kitchen table with mini marshmallows and toothpicks, building. Clean up for me: a few toothpicks on the floor. (and a week later sneaking it into the trash) They had a blast for the whole evening doing that. This is my favorite Arts and Crafts book. Really, her whole series is great, but I would start with this one. Happy Non Crafting!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pictures will help 18 Feb 2010
By L. Liu - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book offers many good ideas for parents to do with their kids. I think it would be more helpful if it includes photos of the finished products. Even though I own this book, I usually go to crafting blogs or family magazines for arts and crafts ideas because they have photos of the process and finished products.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so great 24 Oct 2007
By Me the Teacher - Published on
This book was not what I thought. Activities are very basic and it is a small paperback book without many illustrations, so it's up to you to figure out the descriptions.
