Life's essentials 8 Aug. 2012
By JJ - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
No-one can be sure what's going to happen tomorrow let alone 20 years into the future. However, this graphic novel paints a vivid picture of what the world will look like if we carry on how we've always carried on, governed by greed and the greedy. I recently bought an American Red Cross "Emergency Preparedness" backpack which is filled with essentials like water, dried food, a flashlight, basic medical supplies and a whistle. Fortunately there's just enough room for the Art of War which entertains and educates in equal measure. If I happen to bump into you in the post-apocalyptic gloom I'll lend it to you but it'll cost you a Hershey's bar or a fistful of cigarettes.

Epic 4 Aug. 2012
By arno - Published on Amazon.com

Unable to boast the same credentials as Sonshi, perhaps this review should be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, this is a brilliant graphic novel of epic proportions while remaining true to Sun Tzu's treatise. In fact, it is so mind-blowing throughout that it has inspired my first ever online review. Much like the original text itself, you cannot just browse through "The Art of War - A Graphic Novel" (Amazon, where's the option to italicize, eh?) as each picture, every line, are rich poems unto themselves. So once finished the book screams out for a second (and third...) read to make you sure haven't missed anything, which you probably have. Kelly Roman is the Martin Amis of graphic novels (there is no higher compliment) and he has found an absolute gem in Michael DeWeese to bring his stunningly dark visions to life. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to seasoned readers of graphic novels and neophytes alike, specifically the print version as you will want to hold this beauty to ensure optimal immersion. The only question is: Hollywood, can you do it justice? You know you want to.

Gives new meaning to the ART of war 3 Aug. 2012
By Sonshi.com - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
As founder of Sonshi, the largest resource on Sun Tzu's Art of War, I fully endorse Kelly and Michael's Art of War graphic novel. The Art of War is a respected ancient classic that is still in use today around the world and across all levels of the military, government, business, and even sports. To have Sun Tzu's principles appropriately weaved into a cool, futuristic graphic novel is not only commendable but also spellbinding. I won't spoil it for you. I will let you savor the book yourself. Just know that, like the original Art of War, this book's artwork and storyline are smart and innovative, and demand the reader's full attention, never letting his or her mind slack. And, like the original, Kelly and Michael's graphic novel will become a classic in its own right.

Love the original 22 Oct. 2013
By D. Dahlbeck - Published on Amazon.com

Based on the reviews I was excited to read this, but I just didn't get into it. The story was confusing at times and I actually wish that it was a little longer to fully explore what I thought were otherwise good ideas.

A fair bit of entertainment 27 Oct. 2012
By Rob Slaven - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
As usual I received this graphic novel as a giveaway on GoodReads. As a Graphic Novel "The Art of War" is rather outside my general ken of reading. I don't scoff too loudly at the genre but it's not typically one that I seek out with great enthusiasm unless, of course, it happens to arrive free in the mail. Therefore I'll be the first to admit that I may not be the most qualified person to trust on this topic.

Roman's offering certainly doesn't lack for gritty violence. His ample use of weaponized quantum singularities and bio-engineered insects does keep things interesting. The overall story line, while not especially complex, does tie together rather nicely and seems a wonderful example of the genre. As is typical when a book has few negative points, I don't really have a ton to say about it. It's a quick and entertaining read but at the same time not something I'd necessarily recommend to others. There's no life-changing moment here, just a random bit of entertainment well executed both textually and visually.
