ART of Star Wars IV: A New Hope is an obvious piece of collection. It has photographic material of the local settings and several unique concept drawings. It's a clear evidence - in comparison with all the other volumes of The Art of Star Wars - of the evolution in plastic, photographic, and even dramatic material from the first STAR WARS until today. Although its Art is quite rough and very preliminary-like drawn, we can still feel the shivers up our spine wile going trough this history testimony. Unfortunately the Scrip occupies almost all of the space for the explanatory text that in ART OF STAR WARS: EPISODE I and in ART OF STAR WARS: EPISODE II fulfils a written "making of". But it's always a thrill to go trough the original script which is accompanied by the Storyboard enhancing the evolution of the story. A second part of the book composed of almost fifty pages is dedicated to the extra material. A Section about Star Wars posters the original and the replicas, adaptations to other countries, and events such as concerts and celebrations. A section filled with cartoons and "spin-off" art were the Star Wars characters are involved in parallel adventures and even political sarcasm. A touching section about the young fans drawings, fans Who are now older than the STAR WARS SAGA, but that show in there unique pure way all they're favourite characters. And in the end a full detailed photographic and concept art section about the making of the new footage added to the STAR WARS: EPISODE IV - a New Hope - in its special edition. Concluding, it’s a "must-have" for a true STAR WARS lover.

Bought the equivalent book for The Empire Strikes Back, in 1980s, which was excellent, and so were those for Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones. Therefore I had high hopes for this one.

However I was disppointed that so much of the page area was in my view wasted on a big section at the back on cartoons and kids pictures (25/173 pages), a lot of mediocre stuff, and the complete script. It would have been better entitled The Script with some artwork. No text about the artwork itself, or the creative people who made it.

There are a few full page pencil sketches of dubious value, whilst the fantastic paintings of Ralph McQuarrie are few and far between, and very undersized considering that they have always been the real star of the Star Wars art show.

I think this book just doesn't do any justice to a visually awesome and ground breaking picture.

The book was exactly what I expected. High quality prints and photos of the original Star Wars concept art. Very well done. One of my most prized Star Wars collectors books. It recreates the entire feel of the vision of the Star Wars concept from the mind of Lucas and its producers.
