The Art of Riding:Classical Dressage to High School:Odin at Saumur 16 Jan 2011
By Sandy Dunlop - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a very fine book describing many of the techniques related to the training of horses in the French traditional fashion and written by an author clearly versed in the art. Throughout the text is described the training and formal presentations of the Lusitano stallion Odin by Mestre Philippe Karl during his association as an ecuyer with the Cadre Noire of Saumur. The book is well illustrated and thoughtfully presented. It is interesting to observe, in the text, the differences in academic viewpoint presented when this book was written and how, by the processes of time and experience, Mestre Philippe Karl's approach has changed somewhat with the passing years. He addresses these changes in this book.

Brilliant book 23 Mar 2011
By Ms. Susan Coombes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I love all of KP's books. What I like is that he trains a horse that is crooked and explains why the exercises have to be tailored initially to straighten the crooked horse. As Steinbrecht says, anyone can train a straight horse it is already trained. For me the big stumbling block was training a crooked one...these are in the majority. Anja Bran's second video is equally good on this matter.

a necessity for all riders 7 Feb 2011
By Babushka - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The art of Classical Riding is detailed, direct and typically of Philippe Karl filled with fabulous drawings and photos. We follow the journey of Odin at Saumur, it is written so that it is also a training manual. Each thing written has a purpose and is written with dedication to detail and education of the reader. A must for all serious riders, whatever their discipline.
