5.0 out of 5 stars stunning 30 Aug 2010
By Su TOP 100 REVIEWER
This is 205 pages of artists' images and designs from the game Resident Evil 5.

I originally thought that the text within the book would be in Japanese, as that was what it stated in the description when I pre-ordered the book, but I was delighted to discover that the text was in English.

The book opens with 11 A4, full colour images of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar along with one of Albert Wesker.

Character designs include comments about how the characters changed over time; for example. Chris Redfield was supposed to have bigger arms!! Page 55 has an admission regarding something which all Resident Evil fans have wondered about; Sheva was not the original partner for Chris Redfield, it was meant to be Jill Valentine (pg 74) - no doubt "ShadowLeggy" will feel vindicated now.

There is a section on the changes made during the development of the characters, the enemies, bugs and bosses which is incredibly interesting. Just devouring the step by step changes that were made to the detailed sketches, in the order which they were made, can be a time consuming endeavour.

The detail that the artists put into the smallest item (eg, pouches, holsters, boot laces, etc) is amazing, as is the beautiful scenery and backgrounds. These are all thing that you barely notice when you're playing the game but the images in the book make you want to play again just to see if they are really as good as they seem. Even the various alternative costumes are given, many of which were never used but are still interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, sick and good 19 Sep 2010
By Parka HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Length: 0:48 Mins
This is actually the translated version of the Japanese book "Biohazard 5 Official Art Works", published in 2009. It's finally being translated and published by Udon Entertainment. Better late than never.

It contains the concept art for the characters, creatures, zombies, environment as well as interviews and some discarded visual ideas. The art comes in the form of sketches, coloured illustrations and 3D computer graphics. The high resolution in-game character profiles look really good.

For fans of anything zombies, these book has plenty to delight you. The designs for the undead and creatures are very cool. There are worm infested zombies, rotting dogs, plenty of tentacled disgusting lifeforms and gruesome mutations. This world is pretty sick.

The chapters follow the game play, presenting art for the areas and then the enemies there. Compared to the characters, there are less art for the locations although there are some storyboards and right at the end are some photos of actors playing the main characters in front of green screens.

Recommended to gamers, sci-fi and game artists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 23 April 2013
By Nemmer
When I first found this book, I was a little skeptical. I though it would be a few pages of sketches and screenshots from in the game.

I was wrong.

This is by far one of the most beautiful art books I have ever seen! Not only are there concept sketches, but there are descriptions from the artists which fill you with a greater understanding about what they were trying to achieve.

I was amazed at how much work and imagination went into creating theses images, especially the design of the temple area. So much research and passion went in to that.

If you love concept art and Resident Evil, you need this in your life. You will not regret it!
