4.0 out of 5 stars art 5 July 2004
By A Customer
Format:DVD
A wonderful production for students of singing. If you want to feel a part of something bigger and more historic watch this then discuss it with your singing teacher (providing that your teacher is over 50 and does actually know who these singers are). The footage of Bjorling and tebaldi is fantastic, notice how bored bjorling looks when tebaldi is singing! Camp performances were the norm back then as Martinelli and Schipa prove. Above all you can listen and watch the finest singers of the recording era do waht we can only aspire to do. Don't buy this to improve your singing. Buy this to improve your art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth buying just for La Boheme clip. 24 Nov 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had watched the La Boheme clips featuring Bjorling and Tebaldi on YouTube many times and was therefore delighted to find the whole of the final scene from Act 1 intact on this album on Amazon. It really is worth the money for that wonderful scene alone. The pair both had such beautiful voices. Although some of the dialogue can seem a little tedious, there is some decent facts relating to the early 'golden voices'. The one thing that surprised me was that there were no subtitles when Magda Olivero was speaking about her experiences - in Italian? It would have been nice to understand what she was talking about. It was hearing Pavarotti that first got me into listening to opera and this just goes to prove that there were many other wonderful voices around long before the great man.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasure to own 20 Feb 2011
Format:DVD
I am very happy with this DVD, it contains a wealth of archive material from the Dawn of Recording with Caruso right up to Fritz Wunderlich. Justa glance at the list of singers whetted my appetite for it.The three arias from Act1 of La Boheme sung by Jussi Bjorling and Renata Tebaldi are a joy, and justify the purchase. Sadly there is no complete recording of Bjorling and Tebaldi singing this opera that I have ever come across.

I would recommend this to any opera lover
