A superb book. The 227 full-sized (almost A3), beautiful photographs show what can be achieved with some subtle and some not so subtle artistry. You get 'before' and 'after' pictures of some famous faces - and girls. you too can be gorgeous! With easy-to-follow text and instructions on techniques, it's really fun creating a new look. There are sections on how to recreate looks from the '20s through to the '90s. There's an absurdly young-looking Kate Moss (who, today, and most unfairly, doesn't look any older) There's some tricks of the trade like 'taping'.... strategically placed invisible tape at the eyebrow and cheek, hidden with your hair, and you can achieve a temporary face-lift. This is such a fun book!

Great book for those who like Kevin Aucoin. It was the first of his 3 books, the other two books are better and include more detailed explanations though this is a book worth buying too. It includes great pictures as expected.

Not a guidebook for the novice. 15 Oct 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is really the Art of make up. It doesn't give you step-by-step instructions for applications. It has great pictures of celebrities and autobiographical text by Aucoin. I thought it would help me learn more about make- up applications. I guess I wanted a face map. The pictures are great and he is an artist, but I didn't learn much from the book, other than some history on Kevin Aucoin...

Make-up Bible 1 Dec 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I HIGHLY recommend this book. It has been on my make-up table since it first came out. The instructions are clear, the discussions about color, texture and application are down-to-earth and easily understood. Lots of fun to read, too. Kevin comes across as a really nice person who is passionate about his art. Cured me of my make-up phobia permanently.

Pure genius 2 Dec 2000
By Kelly Thompson-Minor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If Picasso had written a book ÒThe art of paintingÓ would anyone buy the book and think they could paint like Picasso, or would you have purchased the book to read about how a genius learned and practiced his craft? KevynÕs first book ÒThe Art of MakeupÓ is about the art of the craft had how Kevyn (and his mentors and predecessors) elevated putting on facepaint to an artform. As a freelance makeup artist I appreciated the book as a celebration of makeup and not a how to manual. Fortunately, KevynÕs second book ÒMaking FacesÓ is more of a makeup 101
