Amazon Review

"Although the finest batsman the world has ever seen, he played his cricket with the creed of keeping it simple and that line of thinking has continued throughout the pages and photographs in this book ... it is brilliant."
Praise indeed from the great Richie Benaud, the endorsement for The Art of Cricket is certainly well deserved.

Illustrated throughout with black-and-white pictures of Bradman in action, as well as line drawings to illuminate certain tactics, this book offers a fully comprehensive guide to improving your game from one of the biggest cricket legends the world has ever seen.

Chapters on the basics such as batting, bowling, wicket keeping and equipment are followed by higher level advice on running out, captaincy, coaching and a host of other subjects that will ensure all-round competence. Simple, clear, easy-to-follow instructions make this book ideal for any age or skill level--just bring dedication!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the great cricketing manuals 27 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Bradman's place in the game of cricket is immortal, and this book is one of the great manuals for learning to play the game well.

Its focus is more on batting, as that is where The Don was at his greatest, but there is much useful discussion of bowling, and a great chapter on why the ball swings. Perhaps the weakest chapter is on captaincy, rather surprising as Bradman was a brilliant captain. For a good book on captaincy, see Mike Brearley's "The Art of Captaincy."

If you want to learn to bat like the greatest batsman, based on his own techniques, this is the book for you. Combine it with his video "How to Play Cricket" (based on his 1934 film) and you are in excellent shape.

Thoroughly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly relevant 16 Jan 2013

You would think that a book this old in a sport which has seen so many changes should still be so relevant but the tips on batting particularly on how to play aggressive strokes are still relevant. Young batsmen should take note on the description of how to play the pull and the hook. As a bowling reference it's fairly good although I reckon the nature of bowling has changed more particularly spin bowling and Bradman not being a bowler don't make it the best. Interestingly there is stuff in there on the Carrom ball. The one thing I didn't like was that a revised edition (1984) I would have thought there would have been more modern pictures and other content but I guess it was just a freshening of the original.
5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Cricket coaching manuals 22 Jun 2006
By Laguna - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is one of the best Cricket manuals you can get your hands on. The great man discusses issues releated to batting, fielding, and bowling that any smart cricketer of any level can find informative and interesting. He does this while still being able keep it simple - that is, he gets to the point. Other issues often forgotten in cricket books include sportsmanship, captaincy, and the history of the game. It is a very complete book, even though its first edition was published in 1956.

Any smart cricketer who wishes to improve their game can do no wrong in acquiring this book.
