"Craft" looks at Versace's highly inventive use of materials, such as Oroton, the metal mesh he created which can be draped like the finest silk. Other innovative techniques include his idiosyncratic weaving methods and his flair for combining unlikely partners: Prince of Wales check with baroque embroidery, denim and diamante. Showing his fabrics, prints, applique and embroidery in close-up, this section focuses on the detail of Versace's craftsmanship . The stylish page design gives each section its own distinctive look. This is a beautiful book celebrating the work of Gianni Versace, as well as giving an insight to his actual craft, including information on the use of his own fabric Oroton. The book shows Versace's theatrical and glamourous styles which have made him a true fashion icon. The pieces featured are exquisite works of art, combining beautiful draping, amazing embellishment and vibrant colour, which come together to show his unique style.

The Art and Craft of Gianni Versace

This is an excellent book detailing the beautiful creations of Gianni Versace.
The book was a companion to a retrospective exhibition set by the V&A museum in 2002. The book is very well made and loaded with spectacular color photos showing the pieces at their best along with close-up shots.
The book is divided into two large sections; 1) The Art: which basically showcases an exquisite selection of Versace's creations for both men and women. 2) The Craft: deals with Versace's sources of inspiration as well as displaying close-up shots revealing the unique techniques used to create the pieces.
This is a highly recommended book for all fashion enthusiasts. I just wish that someday someone would consider publishing a coffee-table monograph detailing the genius of Versace. However, until then this book fits the bill.
