Having been a Platipus fan for some years I was a bit hesitant when I heard they were releasing a Chill Out album. Trance had always been their thing and, although some of their tracks had been given the Chill Out mix treatment, it just seemed like they were jumping on the Ministry of Sound/Ibiza Chill Out bandwagon.
How wrong I was.
Firstly, it is not just Platipus artists that appear on this album. In the past Platipus albums have been purely Platipus artists, the one exception being the brilliant Widescreen. This has always worked but two CDs of Platipus Chill Out mixes wouldn’t have worked in my opinion. It would have been untrue to the originals.
What does appear is an excellent mix of Platipus and more mainstream artists with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
The result is what a Chill Out CD should be. Many of the more mainstream Chill Out CDs tend to forget what they’re doing half way through and unnecessarily pick up the tempo. The Art Of Chill remains chilled through out. I only bought it at first because I have all the other Platipus releases but was not expecting much. It is one of the best Chill Out albums I have heard since the genre started. And if the music ever gets too much there are always the sleeve notes by Will Self. An insight into Chilling and madness all at once. Confused? You will be.
I would recommend this to anyone who: Needs to relax/chill out, is bored of the rest of the genre, who likes Platipus, anyone who has had a big night out, anyone who is about to have a big night out, anyone who is a Platipus fan, anyone.

Another superb release from Platipus records - taking a slight detour from their usual excellent livid trance compilations with this double CD chill out mix. Excellent chillout remixes and a good selection of tracks make this a must buy.

As all of the other reviewers have said, this is one unbelievably good album. If you can get a copy, buy it and do your ears a favour.
