Good Fun and a Learning Opportunity 7 Nov. 2014

de Camp was a brilliant writer of true Historic Fiction, Science Fiction, and Fantasy, as well as assorted nonfiction. In this work, he demonstrates his knowledge of history and ancient engineering while writing a good novel. His strong character development and sense of humor always make for a good read. The Arrows of Hercules starts with our intrepid hero deciding to work for the Tyrant of Syracuse. His travels from his Greek home to Syracuse include hardships and adventures with romance. The ending seems a little contrived, but it does round out the story and is well written. Do yourself a favor and read it.

I have always enjoyed Harry Turtledove's historic novels. So I've enjoyed reading the books that inspired him to write.
An engineer's novel 1 Feb. 2015

Interesting enough, and no doubt historically accurate. But people act implausibly and the characters are thinly drawn. A pleasing enough entertainment.
