More About the Author

Scott Mariani is the author of the worldwide-acclaimed action-adventure thriller series featuring ex-SAS hero Ben Hope, which has sold over a million copies in Scott's native UK alone and is also translated into over 20 languages. His books have been described as 'James Bond meets Jason Bourne, with a historical twist'. The first Ben Hope book, THE ALCHEMIST'S SECRET, spent six straight weeks at #1 on Amazon's Kindle chart, and all the others have been Sunday Times bestsellers.

Scott was born in Scotland, studied in Oxford and now lives and writes in a remote setting in rural west Wales. When not writing, he can be found bouncing about the country lanes in an ancient Land Rover, wild camping in the Brecon Beacons or engrossed in his hobbies of astronomy, photography and target shooting (no dead animals involved!).

In addition to writing thrillers, he's also an avid fan of horror, and his most recent publication, available exclusively on Amazon, is HOUSE OF MALICE, a shocking and terrifying novella based partly on some of Scott's own personal experiences as a paranormal investigator. You can find out more about Scott and his work on his official website, www.scottmariani.com.

4.0 out of 5 stars It gets personal for Ben Hope. 28 Jan 2014

Mariani doing what he does best - action, adventure and a flawed hero. Ben's on/off lover Brooke inadvertently becomes the target of a madman's affections. Murder and mayhem result from the discovery of a shipwreck treasure which indicates that Serrato, the unhinged villain, is entitled to own vast tracts of the Amazon rainforest in Peru. As in previous stories, the historical elements are thoroughly researched and the characters are well-drawn, although I could have done with fewer descriptions of Serrato's viciousness. There is a fairly unsubtle ecology message running through the later parts of the novel, involving the indigenous peoples, their life style and the damage to the rainforest, but I felt it was relevant and did not detract from the plot's development. Brooke's ingenuity in organising her escape shows that she is Ben's equal in a crisis.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read 24 May 2013

I really enjoyed this book, the plot was well thought and the characters you could believe were people. My only dispute with this book was the flat ending, despite the long build up the end was too sudden

5.0 out of 5 stars Another cracking read 14 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I preordered this and have just finished it, in a day as was hooked, and thought I'd share my thoughts.
It is a very good book and packed with action, twists and unforeseen turns.
I must admit I had a feeling of the storyline for two reasons 1. From the title 2. From the first chapter that was released. and I thought here's another story that's going to focus, heavily, on the Spanish Armada but I have to say I was really surprised of the path that the story took me on and I hope you are too.
Some brilliant new characters are introduced and are really believable.

So overall I was really pleased with the book and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.

Ps. I bought the kindle version so am not sure if this will apply to hard/paper backs but there's an extract of a new, untitled, book coming in 2014 and from reading the extract - wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantatsic fun adventure 19 Aug 2014

Mariani delivers another thrilling Ben Hope adventure taking in Ireland, Grenada in Spain, and the Peruvian jungle. Brooke is taken hostage as a South American kingpin steals secrets from the sunken Spanish Armada and it is up to a Hope and a Colombian detective to seek revenge and save the day. This is a rollercoaster adventure that flies off the pages and is an easy and entertaining read. Great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read 26 Feb 2014
By Rog
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is my first book from this author, but I'll definitely be buying others. Lively, pacy and almost believable fiction involving drug lords, corrupt government officials and one man's adventure to save the person he loves. Some highbrow literary 'experts' may waffle on about some of the characterisation being a bit thin etc., but to a normal mortal such as myself, it's brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read 26 Jan 2014
By Robbie
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book along with all Scott Mariani's other books, in this series. Although they are all of a similar theme I found it as with all the others a good, enjoyable read, including history with present day. I wasn't too sure at first about jumping from present day to historical times of Sir Walter Raleigh but as the book went on found as with all Scott's other books I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. As with most novels of this type although far fetched it was an entertaining and a good easy read. What more could you ask for
