Product Description

In a fast moving science fantasy adventure the Grand Masters of Sarros and Altim deploy their magicians and pit their wits and armies against each other as they manipulate events on the world of Erith. Plot and counter plot are interwoven where friends and enemies are found in the most unexpected places. But it is an unsuspecting apprentice magician at the court of Fyordorn with a somewhat unconventional approach to magic who is pivotal to the final outcome.
Since publication, The Apprentice of Fyordorn has been followed by a sequel, The Grain of Truth and a prequel, The Voids of Discovery.
‘It was a tired and exhausted Master of Sarros who finally left the comfort of his chair and walked wearily to the collection of spheres hovering at the far end of the room. They graphically showed the status of his war with Altim. Grimly he was reminded that more were flame red and under Altim’s control than blue and under his protection. How could a tiny speck of sand be the cause of so much bloodshed? But then ‘the grain of truth’ protected by layers of differing magic was said to contain the knowledge of all the known worlds. It was that knowledge that the Grand Master of Altim had vowed to discover at any cost. And it was on the blue sphere representing the world of Erith that the magic that would unlock its secrets might be found.
Shaking his head he made his way to a low table and studied a chequered board on which a number of figurines were displayed. Slowly his hand moved to that of a raven. He held it for a while and then gently placed it on a square already occupied by his eagle. The small blue sphere at the far end of the room shone with a raven’s image. His decisive move had been made. Later that evening seated again in his chair he watched it glow once more. The image of a hawk appeared. The Grand Master of Altim had made his counter move and a Guardian had been put in place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast moving, inventive action. 16 Nov 2011
By PeteH
Format:Kindle Edition
A gripping tale which keeps your attention page after page. Magicians good and bad battle for dominance in an inventive and intricately woven plot. The characters are well drawn and the plot lines twist and turn nicely. You will need to concentrate but it is well worth the effort. Excellent first book.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not great 24 Mar 2013
By Lazuras - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The story line moved a little fast and the style was a little choppy. It got better at the end. I wish I had read Voids of Discovery first but it was not clearly Identified and I had a Prime Price of $0.00 so I took a chance. I liked the ending but I did not think it good enough to buy the sequel Grain of Truth. The familiar (a dragon fly type guide of magic from a lost race for the elves) attaches it self to the main character after an Arch Madge dies and the hut where the 5th book of the elves is found. This book shows were a fifth gate between the land of elves and man is. IT seems this gate is between worlds not just places on the same planet. It is where the elves originally came from and were driven out. Like I said it was good but choppy. I think characters could have had a little more depth and the personalities developed to make them either grumpy, happy, sad, in love scared something a little more. Like I said I tried it for free but I did not buy the sequel. i read a lot of fantasy and I kinda compared it to Mageborn or Weilder and it came up lacking.
