Product Description

Product Description

The Apprentice with Sir Alan Sugar is a high profile new series coming to BBC2 in February 2005. The program is the UK version of the highly successful US series featuring Donald Trump. Sir Alan Sugar is the self-made multi-millionaire behind Amstrad and Viglen, and he is also well known outside the business world thanks to his high profile involvement with Spurs FC. The book is a practical guide to succeeding in the business world and is packed with instructional information from Sir Alan based on the lessons learned in the series. Contains lots of questionnaires, bullet points and summaries in order to make the subject matter more accessible and easily digestible than in traditional business manuals. There will also be plenty of case studies to illustrate and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates from the series, so the book will appeal to fans of the program as well as would-be entrepreneurs.

A quick read 28 Mar 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
For anyone who watches the BBC show, this is a good companion to have as it puts flesh on the bones of the TV series. For anyone who hasn't seen the show it is still a good read. There is anything particularly new in the business principles presented but what is refreshing is the way that Sir Alan Sugar presents the information. It is direct and to the point. There is no fluff. Many business books are a chore to read. This book has practical information presented in bite sized pieces which are very easy to digest.

I've given the book 4 stars, with 1 star taken away for quite a number of typographical errors scattered throughout. It's obvious the book was hurried out to coincide with the beginning of the TV show.

If you read the previous book from The Apprentice, then the initial thing you'll notice about this one is that it is very similar for the first section of the book.

The opinions and thoughts of Sir Alan have basically been copied from the original book to this one, with a few tweaks here and there.

For me this was fine as I am a big fan of the series, and also find that if I read things a few times over I take them in better.

The main difference with this book is the review of the tasks from the last series. Sir Alan gives his thoughts on the outcome from each task, and expresses his opinions on various aspects of each task. There is also an overview of the candidates from the new series.

If like me you love 'The Apprentice', and you are happy to read the same thing again, this book is for you. If however you are looking for some brand new advice and new detail of personal experience from Sir Alan, there really isn't much in here so it might be what you want.

The Apprentice - How to get Hired and Nor Fired by Alan Sir Sugar is a 269 page paperback. Fully revised and updated.

The book is a spin-off from the BBC TV series, though the book evolves largely around business principles which the 12 TV episodes represent as 1 people get fired and 1 gets hired.
I enjoyed the book, light-hearted reading with sound business principles. The book begins with a look at Sir A. Sugar life, his advisors, Nick and Margaret and then goes into the business side of things.

The books cover planning and adapting, market selling, perceived value, work-life balance, closing the deal, advertising, interviewing, project management, insubordination, flexibility etc.
As a TV spin-off the book also look as aspect of series 1 and looks forward to series 2. There is an index in the back and details of each series 2 candidate with two charts for IF you really ant to tick the squares to see how each candidate has performed!

The book was well laid-out with quote here and there from Sir Alan and Tim (the winner of series 1) with 'Take Action' business points in each chapter which Sir Alan has written.
