If you thought Fast Eddie Clarke was just the guitarist in what most regard as Motorhead's 'Classic Line-Up' and then leader of the super-group, with UFO's Pete Way; Fastway, then this knockout double CD will convince you otherwise. Yes, something from both those bands are there, but Fast Eddie has more strings to his guitar than that
Long before Motorhead, Eddie was guitarist in Curtis Knight's band, Zeus -and an earlier version, Curtis Knight and the Squires had a certain young man named Jimi Hendrix as the guitarist, so Fast Eddie was following in quite hallowed footsteps. But he did so, and remarkably well, as the first two tracks here from the Zeus album 'The Second Coming,' demonstrate.
Then, one-by-one, the Zeus musicians left Knight to form another band named Blue Goose, but Eddie left them before they recorded their eponymous album, prefering to start afresh with a new project named Continuous Performance. This band didn't get a record deal, but here we have two of their demos showing why the record company's back then were rather short-sighted; but had they clinched a deal, Eddie wouldn't have been there to join Motorhead - so fate intervened to our advantage. Then we have 11 of Eddie's favourite Motorhead tracks to wipe the floor with us, then 8 from Fastway, four of which are previously unreleased demos with Pete Way on bass, to convince you to buy those Fastway albums from the 'New & Used' section sooner rather than later.
Four tracks from Fast Eddie's solo album follow, I reviewed it and somehow it got one star instead of the righteous 5 it deserves, and these tracks will show you why. The Black Electric track is Fast Eddie playing acoustic guitar, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity you really can't afford to miss hearing. Then Eddie's final 2 favourite Motorhead thrashers end off this fine set by rattling the beer bottles by the side of the sofa and the fag-ends in the ashtray on the coffee table - YEAH! Man, this album ROCKS!
