I am not sure about this being the best place to begin an appreciation of Curtis Mayfield's career. It is far too skewed in favour of his period with The Impressions, in my opinion, at the expense of his solo output. There is simply too little of the latter to make this truly worthy of recommendation, although the solo selections are top drawer stuff.
Furthermore, it has a really naff sleeve. (Okay, i know that should not be one of the main factors in deciding a purchase!) Avoid this one. Check out the other compilations, or go for the Charly box set. The packaging may be cheapish, but the music easily makes up for that. And it will probably be much better value than this sub-standard double, which i chose to off-load.
