not very happy with this the gel warped and ants got stuck down side of it, plus they didnt seem interested in making homes they crawled out of air holes and escaped.

3.0 out of 5 stars You Learn About Ants, 6 May 2009

Hmmm. So basically you grab a few ants and chuck them in and, "Hey presto!" An ant colony. Nope. First bunch of ants - 8 as per instructions - just sat around the top of the gook inside the habitat and just got depressed. Until next morning when I found that the little critters could squeeze out of the miniscule air holes at the top and the very small gap where the lid seal sits. So once again I bunged in some more ants - with additional security measures. And a week later they were still sitting on the top of the blue gunk looking depressed. So I took them outside and removed the lid to see them spring into escape mode quicker than Steve McQeen. Hmmm. I then rooted around the garden and found a nest of bigger ants who looked a bit more aggressive. Bunged them - with security in place - and next morning - a hole in the gloop. Yey I thought, here we go. Nope. Seems that when they have made enough of a hole to hide in that seems to be enough. I certainly have not seen the trackway of tunnels that are shown on the package so far. My next plan is to try with considerably more ants than suggested and see what happens - hopefully competion will drive the wee beasties to dig for victory. So, it is educational I guess, because I have learned that ants do not read the package instructions and do as they are told at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blue goo and ants too, 6 Jun 2009

This product is absolutely miniscule, it's about the size of the picture on Amazon.
Oh, and the ants died within a few weeks partly because they refused to eat the blue goo and partly because they got STUCK in the blue goo. I don't see what you can learn from half a dozen dying ants. But, okay they did dig a few tunnels before they died. But still, I wouldn't recommend buying this.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS
For those that do not know - your ant farm ants will die within 2-3 weeks as they have no queen and, therefore, no reproduction for the 'colony'. Read more
