This book isn't an art book with pictures, in fact it has not got any pictures at all but don't let that sway you!
If you are studying Hayao Miyazaki's work or just a keen fan I strongly recommend this book. Aside from a die heart fan, I am currently working on a study of Hayao Miyazaki and this book is an excellent resource. Discussing themes, cinematic and artistic techniques (amongst others) of his films and other noteworthy projects.
This book covers his work from "Early years" to pre Ghibli works, his Ghibli films (up to "Howl's Moving Castle" [2004]) and other projects outside of Ghibli which he has made a contribution. This book also has a listing of useful websites and a large bibliography to help with further reading.
It is suitable for beginners because it usefully outlines particular differences in narrative and technique to Western filmmaking and other such artistry (including manga and anime) under its "Frame of Reference" chapter. It also makes many comparisons to the Disney works which is both helpful and interesting.
The only down fall I found is some of the language used however that is due to my reading ability and shouldn't scare you off. Everything is easily set out and extremely well written.
Overall this book is a gripping read and excellent if you want to explore the genius behind Miyazaki's enchanting work.
