Product Description
When the little wooden train picks up, first, Mrs Elephant, then Mr Bear and finally Mrs Walrus, the driver is full of foreboding. His train cannot possibly carry such weighty passengers up to town. But it does. He warns them not to overdo the shopping or they will never complete the return journey but they take no notice and as the little train chugs homewards it has a preposterous load. When Mrs Elephant sneezes, disaster of the worst kind happens; the train falls apart. But the ingenious animals are able to turn calamity into an unexpected surprise picnic for everyone. The day ends on a happy note.

My 2 year old daughter loves this book. She loves to go to the page where the train crashes and puts her hands to her mouth and shout "Oh no".
It is a lovely story about Mrs Elephant, Mr Bear and Mrs Walrus who go shopping on a lovely colourful train and what happens to them....and it has a nice happy ending. The illustrations are wonderful; every page is full of interest and detail. I would anticipate we have several more years of enjoyment from this book as my daughter learns to appreciate the detail. I recommend it highly. It will certainly feature on my Christmas list.

Off to the Fair and Animal Train are simply wonderful picture books. They sit comfortably alongside The Hungry Caterpillar and Where the Wild Things Are as picture books that every child should own.
They are both masterpieces and classics in my house.

This is a fantastic book. Great drawings, easy pace. Give this book a chance and it reads itself. My boys love it when the animals go out to buy "too much" for the train. The walrus is up first and buys "six...(I pause for effect here)...HUNDRED sardines" By the time the get to Mrs Elephant and her list of purchases, started calmly and then accelerating in one breath read, "apples, oranges, bananas, pears, plums, peaches, stawberries, gooseberries, mulberries, melons, mangoes, quicnes, dates [deep breath] AND a large pumpkin." has them in histerics. If you like to do different voices and accents when you are reading aloud, this book is a gift! Mrs Walrus is definitely American, Mr Bear is an Aussie no doubt and Mrs Elephant is a didactic Brit. If you like it half as much as we do, it's worth twice the price.
