A timely tome indeed. Forswearing Stenton-esque abstrusity, Professor Yorke here provides neophyte Saxonists (and interested laypersons) with that all-too-rare commodity: an accessible, wholly-digestible introduction to the events of Anglo-Saxon England. Devoid of inconsequential rumination and composed in language of crystalline clarity, this will be cherished by future undergraduates as a succinct and engaging introit to their subject. The minutes of my Aethelgyva Awareness Workshop seem hopelessly esoteric in comparison...
