Product Description

Product Description

Food as a passion, a gift, a means of revenge, even a source of power -- these are the themes Bulbal Sharma explores in her collection of stories. Women weigh up the loss of a lover or the loss of weight; they consider whether hunger and the thought of higher things are inextricably linked; they feast and crave and die for their insatiable appetites.

I loved it! Be warned, don't sit down to read Anger of Aubergines if you don't have ready access to Indian food, either cooking it yourself or take away. I found each story extremely compelling and I was delighted to find a recipe at the end of each one. Congratulations to the author. I will look out for further works bby BULBAL SHARMA.

The Anger of Aubergines by Bulbul Sharma didn't quite live up to it's great title. The stories were OK, but not anything special. I liked the fact that at the end of each story there was a recipe (or two) which had featured in the story. Especially as they were unusual recipes (to me anyway). I like to think I'll try at least one out, but only time will tell on that one.

It was an OK book to read, but not one I'll be particularly recommending to my friends. The characters, while adequately drawn, were not memorable. I may go back to the book, but for the recipes, rather than the tales.

I have been enjoying the culinary/literary works of Sharma Bulbul, and this is another one. Her tales of Indian domestic life are light but entertaining, delightfully unpretentious. Plus, you get to learn a lot about Indian food, numm numm.
