i remember i watched the tv film of the story when i was growing up and recently i discover it is also a book - the story and art are simple and also enchanted - a story about the toys and picture-book characters becoming alive (long time before Toy Story!) - and i like how the angel-girl rescue the soldier-boy when the pirates kidnap him - it remind me about a different picture-book The Snowman because it tell a magical story with not a word!

I give four stars because maybe it is old-fashioned now but maybe a good present that grandparents give to their children - and good for young children because it is a wonderful story about bravery, honour, friendship - and if they can't read, it not a problem because the pictures tell the story

I got this as a surprise for my sister as we read it when we were little, she loved it (and I ended up treating myself to a copy) :)

Exquisite for both Children and Adults 16 April 2005
By Kathleen R. Pickett - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
While browsing through a small book store eight years ago, I was smitten by this book. It is uplifting, imaginative, tender, and exquisitely illustrated. To my delight, my grandson loved it as well. It has remained the favorite book of his childhood. It's a "must" for those who seek the best in children's literature. Few know about it, but if it emerges from obscurity, it will become a classic.

My son's favorite book 11 Mar. 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This was given to my son one Christmas when he was 3-4 years old. It was his favorite book for so long. Because it is only illustrations, it can be read differently by many people. The pictures are amazing; the details and creativity just wonderful. I then purchased every other book by Peter Collington, and both of my children have loved them all. I have given this book as a gift many times!

Not quite what I wanted, but my own fault 11 Aug. 2009
By B. A. Herndon Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This book, though a fine purchase with great illustrations, was not exactly what I wanted. I failed to notice the Mini part and did not realize it was a small-sized copy of the book. The artwork and quality of the book are just the same, however the size is not. Very good book for children perhaps, but not so for an amateur children's book collector.
... me to 'read' this book over and over just like her aunts and uncles did when they were little ... 1 Nov. 2014
By D.S. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
My four year old granddaughter wants me to 'read' this book over and over just like her aunts and uncles did when they were little like her. I especially enjoy 'reading' it to her and I really enjoy the illustrations.
