One Christmas tradition continues and another is born with two new holiday compilations. A Merry Christmas With Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters marks the first combined holiday album ever released from two acts who scored some of the very first Christmas hits. Michael Ball: Christmas marks the debut U.S. release of the U.K. gold album from the British musical superstar.

Crosby teamed in the early '40s with The Andrews Sisters, the most popular and famous singing sisters in history, for more than a decade. They earned 23 Top 25 hits as a unit, including three times with Christmas songs, twice with "Jingle Bells" and once with "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." A Merry Christmas With Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters (MCA/Decca/UME), released October 24, 2000, also includes four more of their holiday collaborations.

Among the album's 20 digitally remastered selections are also three Andrews Sisters recordings making their CD debuts: "Jing-A-Ling, Jing-A-Ling," "Christmas Candles" and their Top 20 hit "Merry Christmas Polka." The other hit Yuletide recordings from Patty, Maxene and Laverne included on the album are the Top 10 "Christmas Island" and Top 40 "Winter Wonderland." Two other tracks from The Andrews Sisters and seven more from Crosby complete this warm and joyous traditional pop Christmas collection.

Michael Ball, Britain's handsome, charismatic star of stage musicals ("Les Miserables," "The Phantom Of The Opera," "Aspects Of Love" and "Passion") has successfully segued to traditional pop stardom in the U.K. The smooth crooner was finally introduced to mainstream America this fall with his featured pledge drive music special on PBS stations across the country. The accompanying album, The Very Best Of Michael Ball - Live At The Royal Albert Hall, entered the U.K. charts last year at #1. In fact, all nine of his solo albums, including 1999's Christmas, have gone at least gold in the U.K.

As with Ball himself, the 12-selection Christmas (Hip-O Records), also released October 24, 2000, spans both the traditional and the modern, from "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria" and "Silent Night" (featuring Brian Kennedy) to "Driving Home For Christmas," "From A Distance" and "As Long As There's Christmas" (a duet with stage star Elaine Page).

From the timeless A Merry Christmas With Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters to the timely Michael Ball: Christmas, new musical gifts have arrived for this holiday season.
