The subject matter seems rather unfocused in this biography. It covers rather more of Lloyd Webber's personal life than the four other existing biographies, which isn't exactly a bad thing but then Michael Coveney goes on to expound on Lloyd Webber's corporate dealings and other irrelevant subtopics and the musicals bit ends up being merely glossed over. Hard-core Lloyd Webber fans who already know all there is to know about his musicals might enjoy the little asides; I'm not sure others would.
The quality of the writing leaves much to be desired, and mistakes, both factual and grammatical, abound in this book. I can appreciate the fact that it isn't easy to write an entirely accurate biography, but when you see Sarah Brightman's Top Ten hit ' I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper' appear as ' I Was Married To A Starship Trooper' in this book, it really makes you want to roll your eyes/raise your eyebrows/call the publishing company.

A true account of Andrew Lloyd Webber

Andrew Lloyd Webber - like him or hate him. This absorbing read is the best I've seen so far, that really puts the Lloyd Webber story into proper perspective. A good critical unbiased read that will delight many readers. Just don't expect to read much about the shows themselves, which is quite surprising when you consider Micheal Coveney is a Daily Mail writer. But you'll still enjoy the book.
