2.0 out of 5 stars YOU ARE GOING TO DIE IN HERE, 8 Nov 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
The film is written, produced, directed, and scored by Andrew Jones (Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection, The Feral Generation, Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming) .

Lisa (Sophia Del Pizzo) gets a job as a night time cleaner at the High Hopes asylum built on the same spot as the infamous Amityville haunted house. We later find out that some pagan worshiping Native Americans from Salem were massacred and buried there also. Lisa soon sees non-special effects ghosts and the staff doubts her. Oh where is Zelda Rubinstein when we need her? The first 20 minutes of the film is an introduction of the criminally insane patients and the cleaning agents used by the staff...which never played a part in the film. Seriously, Andrew if you are going to spend time telling us what kind of cleaners the hospital uses on different stains, you must bring this full circle and utilize it later on.

It is a low budget production shot in basically one location, light on special effects and action. The film consists mostly of boring dialouge connecting a few boring action scenes. I can't fault Sophia Del Pizzo for her role, she wasn't given much to work with. She didn't let the total lack of talent around her drag her down to their level. Unfortunately the film needed more than actors.

Not recommended viewing. 2 stars for the effort.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Sex talk.

I very very VERY rarely write reviews for anything I buy on here, but this movie was so ridiculous i HAD to write something.

The price of this movie isn't the kind of money a typical human being would ask to be refunded, but the time you waste watching it is most definitely the issue. I noticed within the first 10 words spoken by the main character that she was obviously British and attempting an American accent, and after the first half an hour it became clear that pretty much all the actors involved were attempting the same thing. My personal favourite was the janitor, who was attempting some kind of Russian accent and ended up sounding like a mixture of Scottish and some other unworldly tongue. The director must of been deaf, the acting itself was appalling and storyline was just an all round mess. Ive seen media students in their early projects pull off better work than this.

Safe yourself the time!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously don't bother 26 Jun 2014

Predictable plot. Terrible acting which wasn't helped by the lame script. Lighting often so dark I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking at. Camera used for 'effect' was just wobbly and made me giddy. That's an hour or so of my life I won't get back.

I know that 'The Amityville Asylum' has been given some very scathing reviews, but I can't help but think that had it not had the name 'Amityville' in the title, it would have been more warmly received.

I wasn't fooled by the DVD cover like other people might have been. This is because I've purchased many a 'horror' film in recent times from supermarkets (where I also bought this) that are very low budget movies (which this is) which have stunning artwork, which sometimes doesn't necessarily have much to do to the picture, in a bid to sell more copies. However, as I have managed to sit through the likes of 'The Lost Episode', I know what a really bad movie is, and this isn't one of them. With practice, you can spot a film which won't live up to it's front cover a mile off, and I knew that 'The Amityville Asylum' wasn't going to be a horror masterpiece, but I can't say that I disliked it either.

Lisa, a young woman lands a cleaning job at High Hopes Hospital, a mental institution in Amityville. It isn't long before she starts seeing people who aren't there, and has to tolerate not only the disturbed patients and their often vicious rants, but creepy and sleazy co-workers. She soon discovers that things are not what they seem, and sets out to discover the history of the hospital.

The film will never be in the same league as the more famous movies that this is trying to cash in on. It starts off quite slow, it's difficult to care about some of the characters, the performances from a cast who are mainly inexperienced actors varies (it has to be said though, Sophia Del Pizzo, the actress who played Lisa was pretty good), and I was left confused at certain things, having to go on the internet to clear things up.
