Product Description

Review

A highly detailed examination. (...) A valuable resource for historians who need an accessible, but comprehensive, account of the peace negotiations. (...) A work of original scholarship that analyzes for the first time a crucial episode in the history of the Napoleonic era. NINETEENTH-CENTURY FRENCH STUDIESParticularly welcome, especially as it breaks new ground by covering the peace negotiations as well as the descent into war. Grainger's study has considerable merits and contains many fresh insights. INTERNATIONAL HISTORY REVIEWThoughtful and interesting work that shows how much can still be achieved by studies in British foreign policy.. An effective piece that moves form specifics of diplomacy to wider issues, this is an impressive work. HISTORYThe wide-ranging resonance of this work makes it of particular interest. I needed this book for my dissertation, it was the Holy Grail for me. After searching for months, I discovered that Grainger was the only historian who had written anything substantial on the truce between Britain and France, one the preluded the Napoleonic Wars.

This book is well written and was very easy to read, something which I am very thankful for. It doesn't assume any prior knowledge on the reader's part and yet still manages to be a short and concise read.

Would recommend it if you are interested in the Napoleonic Wars, as I feel the treaty is very understudied for its importance to perhaps changing the course of the battles.
