More About the Author

I have been an Electronic design engineer for thirty years. For the past twenty five years or so, I have been restoring and repairing pocket watches, and for the past three years have run a successful web-based business selling restored pocket watches (eBay, westhill_watches). I am fascinated by the intricate and often beautiful mechanisms of the evolving pocket watch, from the 18th century verge to the precision lever movement of the early 20th century. I see it as my mission to rescue these lovely things from the scrap heap and to restore them to working order for the enjoyment of others.

I live in Leicester with my partner Anne, and our two moggies. I am also a lover of wood, being an enthusiastic carpenter and furniture maker in my spare time.

About the Author

Christopher Barrow has been an electronic design engineer for thirty years. For the past twenty-five years or so, he has been restoring and repairing pocket watches as a hobby, and for the past six years has run a successful eBay business selling restored pocket watches and barometers. He is fascinated by the intricate and often beautiful mechanisms of the evolving pocket watch, from the eighteenth-century verge to the American-made precision lever movement of the early twentieth century. He sees it as his mission to rescue these lovely things from the scrapheap and to restore them to working order for the enjoyment of others. Chris lives in Leicester with his partner Anne, and their moggy. He is an enthusiastic carpenter and furniture-maker in his spare time.

Could have been SO much better. Just not much information given 18 Nov 2014

Could have been SO much better. Just not much information given. Each section is but a few paragraphs. Photos are nice, however, not too many of those either. Certainly NOT "comprehensive" like the subtitle claims. I'd suggest that those interested in pocket watch repair ferret out the old texts, such as the Bulova school book (still available as a reprint, and pricey, but HUGE and worth every penny) or the Fried watch repair text (find an old hardback copy).

The book is OK, but there is nothing new in there that would not be cover in any other, similar books.
Don't expect details with pictures on how to fix specific problems.
This book, to be really valuable, should be three times thicker.

When will this be published? 1 Feb 2014
By JoDi - Published on Amazon.com

I am giving this one star, because I can't get a date on when this will be published. I originally ordered this on December 1st. I received a message shortly after saying that I would be updated when it was ready to ship. Then around January 3rd I got a notice that it would ship on January 31st, and that date has come and gone - still no book! Instead I got another notice saying I would be notified when it was ready to ship. How can I find out what is going on with this item? Will it ever be published, or should I start looking for another pocket watch repair book? If you can give me a definitive answer, I will be glad to change my review.
