Charleston, South Carolina Assistant District Attorney Hammond Cross drives out of town when he stops at a county fair. His stopping here is a minor miracle considering that the son of two blue bloods never went to these public places as a child. While drinking a beer, he notices three marines accosting a beautiful woman. Hammond cleverly helps her reject their advances. Hammond and Dr. Alex Ladd share a few dances and due to the fates, a night to remember.
At the same time someone murders business mogul Lute Pettijohn at the Penthouse of the exclusive Charles Town Plaza. The preliminary evidence strongly points towards Dr. Ladd as the killer since she is the last known person to have seen the victim. However, Dr. Ladd has an airtight alibi that proves she was at a fair several miles away from the hotel. This scenario will only happen if Hammond risks his political future as the heir apparent to the current DA and steps forward with the truth.
Throughout the nineties, Sandra Brown has gifted readers with some of the best novels of the decade (see FAT TUESDAY and UNSPEAKABLE). In turn, fans have bestowed on Ms. Brown automatic best seller status. Her latest thriller, THE ALIBI, will close the era with another sure shot best seller that is probably the best work by this awesome author. The fast-paced story line blends a romantic legal drama with a police procedural filled with twists and turns as the clever killer tries to remain in hiding by influencing the investigation. The intelligent lead characters struggle with an unwanted attraction that conflicts with their legal dilemmas. This crisp tale proves that the best just get better.

Sandra Brown was the lady that introduced me to the wonderful world of romance- with her Fanta-C, Slow Heat in HEaven etc. etc and then I followed her into thrilling rides to war zones (WTS) and political sabotages (Exc.) with her romantic suspenses but with her last couple of novels she was losing me as her ever loyal fan...until now- the Alibi is GREAT- pure Sandra Brown packed with action and romance and most of all A GREAT STORY with a true hero.... thanks enjoyed it a lot- worth my 25 bucks !

I am an avid fan of Sandra's and have snatched up everything of hers even from her Erin St. Claire and Loveswept days. The Alibi has too many subplots and forces you to take a while to warm up to the plot. The characters are never fleshed out to the point where you really care about them. And unfortunately, I figured out who done it by page 15 though I wasn't really sure why the killer did it. She also left quite a few of her subplots dangling and cut the book off abruptly. I realize romantic suspense is all the rage but I kind of wish Sandra would write a sizzling, lusty Southern burn-up-the sheets true love story and take a break from the intrigue. As I said, not her best work. Think I'll re-read Slow Heat in Heaven or Fanta C and forget about this one!
