Product Description

Product Description

Two centuries after its invention, the Stirling has emerged as a commercial reality. The engine is now employed as a core component in domestic (CHP) combined heat and power technology, which offers substantial savings in raw energy utilization, while also addressing issues with greenhouse gas emissions. This book discusses the resolution of problems that once limited the Stirling: the mismatch between inherently favorable internal efficiency and wasteful external heating; a lack of data on heat transfer and flow related to first-principles design; and limited RPM capability. The book also includes previously unpublished insights on two related engines-- the pressure-wave and thermal-lag.

Whilst it is obvious that the author is very well versed in air engines, and I have had interesting times reading this book, I find the book confusing is being very focussed in the detail physics of regenerators, but does not go into any details on air engine design. Is this meant to be a general discussion of the air engine or a thesis on the regenerator?

Stirling engine design process 5 July 2011
By Charlie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Organ continues to advance the Stirling engine design process by writing clearly and in an easy to understand style while not skimping on the technical analysis and paying attention to the practical details required to actually build such engines. I have previously bought "The Regenerator and the Stirling Engine" and "Air Engines" by the same author and was equally satisfied with these books. My personal interest is in building a 500 watt Stirling engine.

The Air Engine 10 Sep 2010

This is an excellent and authorative book on the mathematical simulation and resulting design conclusions of the Stirling Cycle engine or related air engines.
