Format: Paperback
This book is exceptionally basic, and does not really provide much use to anyway over about 10yrs old who has mastered manners in every day life. Sections on "using the phone in the Dojo" always ask and keep calls brief ! Look instead at books like "Aikido and the dynamic sphere". This book is probably of use if you are introducing a child to the dojo, to explain what is required and expected of them, an adult that doesn't know most of the etiquette is probably learning the wrong art anyway.

I was hesitant to purchase this book but am SO glad I did. I've been a martial artist for some time now and just recently began aikido. This book is a wonderful resource for newcomers, as it includes philosophy and etiquette and ways you can begin working on fitting in to your new dojo. Even how to SELECT the right dojo for you. Anyone interested in aikido, you need this book at the beginning of your training.

This is a straight forward, informative source of information
for those interested or newly started in the study of
Aikido. It details proper etiquette, procedure, and
explains many of the minor details of being an Aikidoka
(student) that your sensei may assume you already know.
O'Conner makes many good comparisons, and moves through the
rudimentary aspects of training in Aikido at a speed that
anyone can understand.

This book proved to be a great intro to Aikido and martial arts in general (especially Japanese ones). It included discussions on practical Aikido, weapon forms, dojo edicate, everything (and it was the only one I have found that came straight out and said how long it takes to become a black belt - 5 years). But, if have already taken martial arts and know something about it, this book might be a little basic for your needs.
