About the Author

Daniel Linden has been involved with martial arts for over 50 years. He is a 6th degree black belt in Aikido (Aikikai) and a teacher in his own school. His books On Mastering Aikido and Journey, On Mastering Ukemi are classics in the field and available from all the usual suspects. The Aikido Mystery Series with Sensei Parker is Mr. Linden’s attempt to generate interest in Aikido, as the art has lost a great deal of popularity over the last couple of decades and he sees the mystery series as a chance to bring it back before the public’s eye. They are also a hell of a lot of fun to write, he says. His literary novel, The Content of Character has been praised as a masterwork and depicts the life of a man suffering from Asperger’s syndrome as he tries to deal with the American dream and his own struggles with normalcy, racism, and brotherly love. When not involved in the study and teaching of Aikido Mr. Linden builds guitars and mandolins in his workshops in Florida and Maine, where he has a small farm. He travels with his wife Laurie, and dog, Gibson. Daniel Linden served the public in municipal security and has been on assignment with the F.B.I., FDLE, multiple police agencies, and has been billeted with the United States Secret Service under three presidents. He is retired now and writes full time when not sanding maple and spruce in his workshop. All books are available (or will be soon) in Audio format, e-book format, and in print.

The first of the series I read, I only downloaded it because it was a free offer - and it is a great pleasure to read a book with depth of character and story, lightness of touch and humour. The title sounds like a martial arts macho theme, but this is very far from my experience of this book. There is action - but it is proportionate and believable and no-one is hanging on wires or conquering all-comers.
The author interjects little excursions that illuminate the history and relationships of the characters, and these are well-judged, well-written and entertaining. The only people who won't enjoy this book, I think, are the ones who think they are buying an all-out action martial arts romp.

A new entry into the "hardboiled detective" genre 8 Dec. 2011
By Kurt Brooks - Published on Amazon.com

A new entry into the "hardboiled detective" genre, The Aikido Caper reminds me somehow of a Kinky Friedman novel or maybe even something by Elmore Leonard (remember "Get Shorty"?). Parker is an aikido teacher scraping by when he takes a bodyguard job to make ends meet and becomes tangled up in what appears to be a conspiracy to cover up a murder. Set against the backdrop of a movie production in Orlando, Florida The Aikido Caper is page turner with a playful mix of action, tongue and cheek references to popular cultural icons, and fascinating descriptions of the movie industry. It's a quick paced read and a lot of fun.

The pages practically turn themselves 5 Dec. 2011

A very enjoyable read. An excellent debut for a uniquely fresh character. My general lack of Aikido knowledge wasn't a handicap in the least. Left me wanting more and anticipating the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. Found out something about another form of defense while being entertained by a mystery and some romance.

I'm an Aikidoka and I enjoyed this novel... 22 Nov. 2012
By Sean - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
First of all, I'm an aikidoka (one who practices aikido) and I was catching myself nodding my head every time the main character explained what aikido was and was not. It was fun to see all the techniques executed in my head because I can do them too. However, the average reader may not be able to understand what's being performed. The movie stars used in the novel just made me laugh and their changed names were great not to mention the movie being remade, Above the Law (Above the Frey).
Fun,FUn, FUN book! What a great grab this was! 10 Aug. 2013

Am over 40% in and loving the characters and the comic lines in this one! You got your straight-man aikido master, your sexy voice-impersonating secretary, your wise-a$$ marine for back-up and some narcissistic celebs the prior three are trying to protect. Unless this positively falls into the Grand Canyon on the back stretch I'm going to go a bit out on the limb and call this a runaway winner! (I am going to definitely check into the author's other Parker mysteries as well, just remember to forgive him the spelling errors you'll come across.) *UPDATE* Finished the next day and sticking to my 5 star review. Excellent!
